I got an A on each of them (three total), and my professor kept them to hang them up in the next show. Thank god, I needed that.

Looking through my closet, I realize I have nothing to wear that I haven't already worn 200 times. Don't get me wrong, I love my clothes, but I have a very small wardrobe actually, and I just get tired of wearing the same thing OVER and OVER again. Hm.

Which obviously means I need more dresses.

Alright, I'm boring myself. Food tonight at my favorite "pan-Asian" joint. Mmmm!

I know in an actual critique, my photos would probably be under fire for trite themes, unactivated negative space, among other things. I release my photographs with the hope that taking more pictures will make me better. I am open to suggestions to improvement. But when I upload a photograph, I do believe that I have pushed my photos to their limits. I edit each one with attention to light, depth, and color.

So when someone comes along, crops my images, tints them red, and passes them around without credit, it really makes me angry. Why?
- Because it's hugely arrogant to assume that their own handiwork is better than the original artist's.
- Because I'm the one who composed the image with a specific vision from the very start.
- Because it's MY photograph. Mine mine mine.

That's not to say that I won't accept suggestions on how to make my work better - that's to say that all suggestions should pass through ME, and should NOT be forced upon my work. If I were selling my photographs to a magazine - sure. But I'm NOT. Taking photographs is a therapeutic release for my own benefit, nothing else. So when someone takes my stuff, warps it without my consent, and calls it their own (or no one's at all), that really REALLY makes me angry.

So if you think a picture is too dark, say so. If you think the composition is too boring, has too many dead ends, say so. But do NOT take it upon yourself to edit my photo without permission. It could end up disastrously red and stout, such as this one. The color and crop are horrendous!

And Momo even looks like an old man! It's not edited at all except for color correction & resizing - she was moving around a lot and this is what I happened to get.

I'm having terrible wanderlust at the moment. Ever since a dream the other night in which I met up with hanaagogo to see some concert (I can't remember the band), I've been dying to drive up to Chicago. Before that, it was LA (thanks to Vanishing Point). I would like to do Chicago in the winter, but obviously that's a terrible idea, so perhaps in the spring. And LA in the summer DEFINITELY around Expo, with a Grand Canyon detour.

Small Picture Post

I finished my painting "on beauty". I felt like a teletubby!

I also hung up my tree branch hooks from Urban Outfitters!

I am SO NERVOUS about my class schedule. My drawing professor from last year is squeezing me into a figure drawing section very narrowly, thank goodness. But the class that I need the most is held in a computer lab, and both sections are completely full. Unless someone drops, I won't be able to fit in! I've been up since 8 sharp this morning in hopes that someone will drop it, but so far, no luck. :S

I GOT THE WEB DESIGN JOB FOR THE UNIVERSITY. They just called me! I wish I could be more excited but sadly, my stomach is turning over the thought of not getting into my New Media class. I am a JUNIOR, I NEED THIS CLASS. Even if I take this class this semester, Istill have 3 years to graduate. It's so sequential and fmllllllllll

My Lust List

Over the past few days, I've come across a number of things that have made my wishlist (basically consisting of a Yashica med format camera and a 50mm ƒ1.8) increase tenfold. I normally try to avoid "window-shopping" online but I couldn't help myself. Here are a few things I'm lusting after.

Remember how I mentioned that I was trying to avoid spending $200 on a knock-off and, instead, wanted to find a more unique bag? Well, I found it on Etsy. Hand-crafted in the UK, using a buttery brown leather and equipped with ample pockets, I found the PERFECT back-to-school bag. It's large enough to hold my collection of ink pens, ponytails, bobby pins, notebooks, and, most importantly, my Nintendo DS.

The only problem? It's $140. Not too bad, but out of my price range currently. From TheLeatherStore @ Etsy

I found out about Hard Graft a while ago, though I can't remember how I came across the site. Their simple designs are perfect for macbook-carrying, moleskine-wielding students, and their "sports" line even comes with a birdy-branded leather pocket. What's classier than playing badminton (or at least pretending to?)

Pictured: the 2Unfold bag and Y-Laptop Sleeve

I peeked my head in Half Price Books yesterday and found this intriguing dye book in the fabrics/knitting section. I. am. in. love. Lately I've been thinking a lot about dyeing fabrics, especially because I've been looking for the perfect purple cotton shade and haven't been able to find it yet. Unfortunately, this book only discusses wool/yarn dyes (none of which will work on cotton) using blackberries, walnuts, and, well, ANYTHING, to produce beautiful, subtle shades. I can't wait to start knitting again this winter, and maybe I can employ some of these dyeing techniques?

Natural Dyeing by Jackie Crook

Mark and I (well, mostly me) are on the market for the perfect platform storage bed. Ikea's just doesn't do it for me, although due to budget constraints, it will probably be the one we settle on. In my quest for the perfect frame, however, I came across this beautiful bed by Viesso. I quickly fell in love with their other furniture products!

Unfortunately, the prices are steep for college students, but not unreasonable considered all furniture is custom made to order. The bed is from the Buden collection, and the coffee tables are from the Gio collection. Check out their website at Viesso.com.
You can find some nice Burberry booties on eBay for cheaper, believe it or not (and I don't mean the checked rainboots either).

*This is not a bad thing! I love her!
School Snobbery

A ton of positive and very negative things have happened to me tonight, but of course, unrelated to any of those things, something else is irking me even MORE. I learned that one of my sister's friends' moms doesn't want her daughter to go to an in-state school. Having gone to private schools all my life (and one of the most prestigious high schools in the country), I'm not new to this sort of snobbery, but it still irritates me every time I encounter it.

Until about a year after starting college, every time someone asked me where I went to school, I always felt like I had to respond with some special preface or explanation as to why I went to UNT (a public university just an hour north) when a good chunk of my fellow high school graduates ended up at Ivy Leagues. It was never, "Oh, I go to UNT," it was always, "Well, I got into Loyola with a $25,000 scholarship, but I didn't like it, so I went to UNT instead."

Fortunately I've become comfortable enough with myself and my school that I don't feel compelled to explain myself to anyone unless they pry, but it still irritates me that people care. It doesn't bother me that people want to go to Ivy League schools, or out of state for college - what bothers me is that people judge others based on their own preferences of these schools.

Another thing that irritates me is peoples' narrow-minded perception of intelligence. Almost EVERY major is taken more seriously than art - yet few biochemical engineering majors can paint a scene employing a full scale of chroma and value. True, many artists I know never made it past college Algebra (I am one of two in all of my art classes that advanced past Pre-Calculus), but I do not know any math majors who could draw a proportioned face (though I don't deny they exist). There are many ways of being intelligent! Art is just as legitimate a career path.

Anyway, I'm out before I start off on another tangent. I just had to get this off my chest.

I just polished off an entire bag of popcorn. I'm so sleepy now :( ugh I hate my period.

Here's a little rage-inducing convo in liking: click.

also, i started drafting a pattern for a costume. No, it's not Relena, nor is it SailorV. It is a girl who loves to eat a lot, and hates to study (but not Usagi). I don't want to say since I never finish stuff but I've already cut out some pieces so I'm sure it's gonna happen.

My baby kitten and Momo are both laying on me right now! so cute.

I was supposed to get my hair cut & colored tomorrow but due to unforseen circumstances I can't switch work shifts with my sister. Urgh. I will just have to celebrate my twenty-first birthday (on Sunday) as a redhead.
